Dena Davis

Co-Founder of Arts Alive! | Artistic Director

Dena Davis has worked professionally as a Children’s Theatre Director, Educator and Actress for 30 years. She trained in theatre at the California Institute of the Arts (BFA), and at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama (MFA).

More About Dena

As an actress, she appeared in plays throughout the UK and Europe, including the London West End’s Apollo Theatre where she was part of the original cast of Ben Elton’s West End production of “Popcorn”, (Olivier Award winner: Best Comedy in 1998). She also appeared in various television productions, including “Grange Hill”, and the classic British series “Jeeves & Wooster” with Stephen Fry & Hugh Laurie. Dena was the Co-Founder and Managing Director of the AFK School of Dance and Drama based in Wimbledon, England, is a qualified LAMDA exam coach (London Academy of Music & Drama),and was also Theatre Director at the Coventry Preparatory School in England. Through Arts Alive! Dena will have directed 35+ plays in the Barrington School District and is excited to see the organization spread to other communities. This year, Dena is directing the HMS production of “Frozen Jr”, the BMS production of “Newsies Jr”, the high school pre-professional program  production of “Urinetown” (open to high school aged actors across Rhode Island), and will be supervising the Spring production of “Aladdin Jr” which will be a combined production with the Sowams, Nayatt and Primrose Hill Schools.  By day, Dena is the office administrator at Residential Properties and runs a social media marketing company for local small businesses. 

Kimberly Durkin

Co-Founder of Arts Alive! | Costume Designer

Kimberly worked as a Costume Supervisor in Los Angeles for 15 years in Film and Television. She is a member of the New England Local 481 and also a member of Los Angeles Local 705. She has worked with many studios such as Sony, Warner Bros., Disney, HBO, Netflix and Universal.

More About Kimberly

Kimberly currently works as a Costume Supervisor in New England. Her more recent film credits in the Costume Department include the Oscar winning (Best Costumes) film Little Women, HBO’s The Gilded Age, Oscar-nominated film Don’t Look Up, I Feel Pretty, Confess, Fletch and most recently, Hocus Pocus 2, Instigators and At The Sea. Some of her other credits include Lethal Weapon 4, Conspiracy Theory, While You Were Sleeping, Phenomenon, The Bodyguard, Primal Fear, and Wayne’s World, along with the Oscar nominated film The Town. Kimberly is also a former Tap dance teacher! In 2009, Kimberly joined forces with Dena Davis and co-directed The Wizard of Oz at Nayatt School, which eventually led to the founding of Arts Alive! This partnership of Dena Directing and Kimberly as Costume Designer has blossomed over the productions of Willy Wonka, Kids, How to Eat Like a Child, Peter Pan, Bugsy Malone, Jr., Aladdin, Kids, Once upon a Mattress, Broadway Rules, Pinocchio, High School Musical, Jr., All the World’s A Stage, The Aristocats , Kids, Into the Woods, Jr., Seussical, Jr., Jungle Book, Kids, 101 Dalmatians, The Little Mermaid Jr., Shrek The Musical, Jr., Lion King Jr., Alice in Wonderland, Mulan and Annie. It has always been a dream for Kimberly to bring her love of theater and design to the schools.

Elizabeth Jones

Executive Director

Elizabeth has been Executive Director of Arts Alive! since 2019. She brings with her a wealth of knowlege and experience in business management, event planning, and youth arts programming.

More About Elizabeth

Elizabeth received her B.A. in dance and secondary education from Roger Williams University, graduating summa cum laude. She holds a teaching certificate in dance, grades Pre-K to 12. Elizabeth has taught and managed dance programs extensively in both the public and private sectors. She is a member of the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) and served as the State Affiliate for the Rhode Island Dance Alliance. In 2014, Elizabeth was honored as “Dance Teacher of the Year” by the Rhode Island Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.

Elizabeth worked with Arts Alive as a teaching artist from 2011-2014. From 2014-2020, she was Director of a large dance studio in Weymouth, MA. In addition to her work with Arts Alive! Elizabeth is currently a dance teacher at a local dance studio and an adjudicator for various dance competitions.

Originally from Bristol, RI, Elizabeth now resides in Dighton, MA with her husband, and two kids. Elizabeth is grateful to help keep the Arts Alive! in the East Bay and beyond!

Marisa Cestone

Assistant Director

As a new Bristol, RI resident, Marisa is thrilled to join the Arts Alive family and bring her passion for education and theatre to the Arts Alive Family! 

More About Marisa

Marisa received her B.A. in Elementary Education with a minor in theatre and a STEAM Certificate from Roger Willaims University, graduating summa cum laude in May 2024. 

Marisa grew up in Simsbury, Connecticut, where her love of performing grew through years of competitive dance and theatre performance. Since her first musical in 5th Grade, Oliver, Marisa has acted in multiple plays and musicals with notable roles, including Jane Banks, Mary Poppins, Lou Ann, Hairspray, and Marci, Almost Maine. Marisa first combined her love of teaching and theatre with a “Play in a Day” Workshop with Arts Alive in 2021. Since then, Marisa created “Take the Stage With Miss C,” in 2023, a summer theatre program through Simsbury’s Continuing Education Department where her students learned a musical in a week with opportunities to explore readers’ theatre, singing, dancing, and acting. Marisa had the opportunity to run another successful summer of her program before returning to Rhode Island this fall to complete her Master’s in Special Education. When not teaching theater, you can also catch Marisa in her other role, “Miss Cestone,” student teaching, substitute teaching, and working as a COZ Staff member at Colt Andrews Elementary School. Marisa’s experiences on-stage and in the classroom support her in creating an inviting, supportive environment for students to explore the joys of performing! Although this is her first year as an Arts Alive! Staff member, she is so excited to be a part of the team and can’t wait for future productions! 

Marisa is excited to bring her passion for education and theatre to the Colt Andrews 1st Grade Mermaids and Pirates program this fall. She has exciting choreography ready and is excited for a MER-MAZING TIME!  

Amanda Genovesi

Amanda Genovesi a Barrington Native who is thrilled to be a part of the Arts Alive team!

Amanda worked with Kaleidoscope Theatre (a professional touring children’s theatre) for over 21 years and graduated from RIC with a B.A. in musical theatre. Amanda is currently a Teaching Partner at Primrose Hill School and is delighted to share her passion for theatre
with her school and community. 

 

Wensday Greenbaum

Workshop Director | Musical Director

Miss Wensday has been a Theatre and Voice Educator for over 20 years.

A performer herself, she was on the Grammy ballot in 2007 in 9 categories including “Best Pop Vocal” and “Best Blues Vocal.” 

 

Danielle Grilli

Assistant Director

Danielle Grilli, soprano, is a recent graduate of the University of Rhode Island where she obtained her Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance.

More About Danielle
Danielle has performed full operatic roles such as Josephine in HMS Pinafore, Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus,  Gianetta in The Gondoliers and has performed many operatic scenes with roles such as Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Marie in Daughter of the Regiment.  She has performed with the Warwick Symphony Orchestra as the soprano soloist in the Schubert’s Magnificat and Handel’s Messiah Part I.  She has also performed as the soprano soloist for Faure’s Requiem, Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Sparrow Mass, and Rutter’s Magnificat in various choirs.
 
Most recently, Danielle was the cheer and stunt choreographer for Bishop Hendricken High School’s Summer Stage production of Bring It On! The Musical.  She teaches private voice lessons at Michelle Lavin Music, where she specializes in audition and performance preparation.  Danielle is excited to be joining the Arts Alive! Staff as the Assistant Director for the Hampden Meadows production of Shrek Jr.

Molly Millard

Director & Stage Manager

A Barrington native, Molly began working with Arts Alive! in 2012 on her high school senior project on the production of Peter Pan at Nayatt School. Since then, she has worked at Arts Alive! Summer Theatre Program starting as a counselor, and is now is the co-director of the summer program.

More About Molly

In 2016 she began working as a teaching artist for the Arts Alive! school programs and has been involved with the productions of Aladdin KIDS, Mulan Jr, Alice in Wonderland Jr, Annie KIDS, Cinderella KIDS, and Beauty & the Beast Jr. In our 2019-20 season, Molly served as Stage Manager for all Arts Alive! productions. Molly is proud to continue to be part of the Arts Alive! staff.

Molly is a graduate of Keene State College, earning degrees in Acting (BA) and Elementary Education (BS). While at Keene State College, Molly acted in multiple plays, was the Costume Head for the department musicals, was president of the colleges improvisational comedy team, and was a member of the Theatre and Dance Honor Society, Alpha Psi Omega. Molly also spent six months studying acting in London, England at  Goldsmiths, University of London. Molly is currently teaching 5th Grade at Hugh Cole School in Warren.

Kara Rocha

Director

Kara Rocha has over 30 years of theatre experience, including on-stage, Directing, Music Directing, Stage Managing or just helping out! 

More About Kara

Most of her theatre experience has been with the Bristol Theatre Company, where she has also been a board member for many years. Some of her favorite on-stage roles include Maria (West Side Story), Sarah Brown (Guys and Dolls) and Philia (forum).  Off stage, she has Directed numerous children’s productions over the years and recently Directed Bristol Theatre Company’s production of A Christmas Carol, A Play with Music.  Kara was excited to join the team at Arts Alive last year, this being her third production with the group.  Kara’s favorite role, by far, is the role of Mom to Kali (17) and Kaila, 12.  Kara lives in Bristol with her husband, Jess, daughters and 2 dogs.  She has a degree in Early Childhood Education and is an Interdepartmental Project Manager for the State of RI, DHS, Office of Child Care. 

Vanessa Roman

Workshop Director

Vanessa Roman has been directing children’s theater for the past 8 years, mainly working in schools.

In addition to teaching and directing children in theater, she is a registered yoga teacher and also teaches classes on racism and gender studies to middle schoolers at the Acera School.  She is thrilled to be entering her second season with Arts Alive, a wonderfully inclusive and dedicated organization for children!

Jennifer Tilley

Director & Choreographer

Jennifer Tilley Freeman is a Rhode Island native, working as a dance educator and musical theatre director with various organizations. She began her dance training as a young child and grew up performing in showcases and competitions.

More About Jennifer

Since becoming a certified dance teacher through Dance Teachers’ Club of Boston in 2003, Jen has had the pleasure of teaching thousands of students. She continued her training at Rhode Island College and was fortunate to work with talented artists and choreographers while performing with the college’s dance company and in musical theatre productions. Jen is a veteran dance instructor with experience teaching all ages at schools and studios in RI and MA, including Dance with Energy, Riverside Dance Center, the Portsmouth Abbey School, Rocky Hill School, St. Philomena’s School, Just Dance!, Twinkle Toes Dance Studio, and RI Dance Alliance’s Chance to Dance. She is currently on staff at J-DAPA in Smithfield and Creative Hope Academy of Dance in Pawtucket. Since 2013 she has been part of the creative team at Arts Alive! She has had the pleasure of directing and choreographing for summer camps, workshops, and many shows including Lion King, Seussical, Willy Wonka, Wizard of Oz, Aladdin, Shrek, Pinocchio, and Moana. In 2014 she was a dance artist in residence at Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts. She has received awards for her jazz, contemporary, and tap choreography. Jen is passionate about her craft and is fortunate to be sharing it with young performers for over 20 years! 

Jenna Tremblay

Director, Assistant Director & Choreographer

Jenna is thrilled to be at Arts Alive! and has worked on several productions for the elementary and middle school level as Associate Director, Assistant Director & Choreographer.

More About Jenna
Concurrently, Jenna works at Barrington Christian Academy as the Chair of the Performing Arts Department and as Co-Administrator of Social Emotional Learning. In addition, she is the Choreographer at Pilgrim Highschool in Warwick, RI where she has worked for several years. She serves as the General Manager of White Heron Student Company in Nantucket, MA, and is House Manager for the John Nazarian Center for Performing arts at Rhode Island College. She graduated from Rhode Island College in 2006 B.A. in Musical Theatre and then an M.A. from Lesley University for Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in Expressive Arts Therapy and Drama Therapy in May 2020. She works as a Clinical Mental Health Clinician in emergency and outpatient settings.
